What if we...: The Story of God

What if we...

spent an entire church year telling the story of God, hitting the highlights each week?

supplemented that with short sermonettes, in case someone misses a week?

translated those into Spanish for those who need a resource?

added a list of resources on each theme? (audio, video, technological, experiential, print, etc.)

used different media/art to illustrate the plot development?

planned ahead?

challenged congregants to look ahead, and see how their daily work reflects the development?

created, alongside the foundational storyline, a Fundamental Christianity offering?

had a gallery for each person who wanted to display truth and beauty for others to appreciate?

didn't read the Bible as much as we let the Bible read us?

listened half as much as we spoke?

Dan,

Great thoughts! At Soma, the church I'm part of here in Tacoma, we created a ten-week discussion cirriculum based on the Bible (the Story of God). We went through it with my community group, had a few unbelievers come too, and it was incredible. The way people found their identity in God's story was incredible, and in the beginning of August we're baptizing one of the guys who is now a believer! Also, on that site I link to below, check out the root website for some other good resources, including a version of this "Story-Formed Way" for kids.

Soma? Like from Brave New World? That was the drug they drank like coffee. Regardless, Soma Tacoma has a nice ring.

That study sounds great! I'm downloading it now.

I know these ideas aren't completely original, but if there are many others doing the same thing, there must be something to it.

Thanks!
