Help? I need a new computer.

I've held out as long as I could.

This is possibly the last time I'll use my laptop, considering the screen is almost dead. I thought about getting an external monitor and keeping it alive, but I can't even run music without it skipping and jumping all over. So, I think it's time for a new computer.

Here's what I would like:

Internet
iTunes
DVD Player
Word
External speakers
Supports Logos software

That's pretty much it. Any suggestions or hot tips? I even considered iPad, since it costs less than many laptops. But since I mostly do typing, I would prefer a more traditional laptop.

Should I buy new? Used? Really, I'm clueless.

Help!

I have a Gateway and I love it for what I do, which sounds similar to you. But I would honestly take a good look into the MAC this next time around. My sister loves hers.

But that's as good as I get for you. I don't know enough about computers to make a wise decision, I had a convenient techy boyfriend when I bought mine. Haha.

Good luck hunting. :)

Honestly dude, any computer should work for you. i have a crappy celeron laptop and it does all those things. i am taking 1.6 gig cpu, 1 gig ram, 60 gig HD, and it handles everything really well. i am running logos 3 on it. so anything you get will handle what you are doing, now if you are doing a lot of video editing, music editing/sampling, or gaming then you are going to need to spend some dough.

think about buying a brand, i really like my toshiba, it has lasted a long time. dell, gateway, both suck. compaq hp are bad. lenovo may be ok, and sony may be ok, a mac would be overpriced hipster trash for your needs.

Erin & Matt - Yea, I don't need much, I guess. It's just deciding what I want. I have to decide? Lame!

OK - here's my two cents:

I have a MacBook and love it. It's my baby and, quite frankly, I won't go back to PC. (Yes, Apple has brainwashed me - BUT THEIR PRODUCTS ARE JUST THAT GOOD!)

BUT - since you're looking for something that doesn't necessarily have to be terribly high tech, there are plenty of cheaper alternatives (because, admittedly, Apple products are kinda pricy). Samir has a Levono laptop and really likes it. My dad has an HP and Justin has a Dell, and they both like their laptops.

I say stick with a laptop (because they're much more convenient than desktops) and get something new. Sure, it'll be a bit pricier than used, but it'll last longer and have a warranty. Used, you don't really know what to expect - and something as important as a computer, you need something at least decent. As mentioned, Levono, Dell and HP are all good brands. Sony and toshiba are good, too.

Check the newspapers for deals. There's always something on sale. GOOD LUCK!

That actually should have said "here are my two cents" not "here's my two cents." And to think I was a teacher!

Haha, you were a teacher. :)

Thanks for that run down! I haven't ever heard of Levono, but it reminds me of Demi Lovato, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I mean, this is me.

The consensus out there is pay a little more, get a quality product. I've been trying to stick around $500, but might move it up to 6. But at that point, I'm looking up a little more and thinking about recording software, etc. Then I'm thinking Apple...

Ugh. This is why it takes me forever to get something. Am I looking for Mrs. Right, or Mrs. Right Now? (in computers...)

You're looking for Mrs. Right. You don't want to get something crappy and then have to get something new a year later...DO YOU?
